About Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), formed by CII in 2001, is the country’s premier green building certifying agency. IGBC is based out of the CII – Green Business Centre, Hyderabad – India’s 1st Platinum rated green building. The council is making constant efforts towards wider adoption of green building concepts.

Till date, more than 4,289 projects are registered with IGBC’s Green Building Rating Programs amounting to a footprint of over 4.68 billion sq ft. These projects are coming up in both public and private sectors that include government buildings, IT parks, corporate offices, schools, colleges, banks, factories, residential complexes, airports, SEZs, townships, stadiums etc. Of these, more than 1182 projects have already been certified and are operational today. IGBC’s share of the green building footprint in the country is more than 90%.

IGBC has launched the following different green rating programs so far to suit all types of construction projects:

IGBC Rating Systems

These rating programs are aligned with various National codes & Standards such as, NBC, ECBC, Pollution Control Board norms, ISHRAE, etc.

IGBC’s vision is to enable a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in sustainable built environment by 2025. IGBC is on course to achieve this with the support of more than 2,021 organizational members spread across 23 chapters in the country.

To seed the ideas of green building concepts in the minds of young people, IGBC has started Student chapters in various architectural and engineering colleges. As of today, there are more than 140 student chapters in leading institutes across the country.

In order to develop service providers equipped to facilitate green building projects, IGBC organizes training programs and conducts the Accredited Professional (AP) Examination. Till date, more than 2,662 individuals have qualified the IGBC AP exam.

IGBC has also been recognized by Central and several State government agencies for incentives like Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), Punjab Urban Development Authority, Jaipur Development Authority, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Small Industries Development Bank of India(SIDBI), Uttar Pradesh Government’ s Housing and Urban Planning Department, etc.

IGBC is a founding member of the World Green Building Council. IGBC’s efforts have resulted in India being positioned as #2 in the world today in terms of the green building footprint. IGBC-rated buildings have repeatedly proved their operational excellence and exemplary sustainability quotient at various international platforms.
