CAMPAIGN FOR GREEN BUILDING
Long before the need for Climate Concerns & Resource Efficiencies was realized in Building Design, Mr. Raghavendran’s works reflected a commitment to the following principles:-
  • Incorporation of Passive Design features as Climate Responsive Design seen in a 450-seater auditorium built for Kalakshetra, a reputed institution of Performing Arts in Chennai (known for its warm & humid climate), during the early 1980s, with no electromechanical interventions except for the audio visual systems & stage lighting, is a standing example to date, of his design acumen in delivering sustainable, low energy buildings.
  • Environmental conscious approach to Design of High Performance Buildings, as seen in the use of Intelligent Design Features in TIDEL Park (Chennai’s first multi-tenanted IT Park) and the Ebene Cyber Tower in Mauritius have resulted in energy efficiency and reduced operating costs. The latter was awarded the ‘Intelligent Building of the Year – 2005’ by Intelligent Communities Forum, an independent Think-Tank based in New York, US, after evaluating over 200 international entries.
This established Design commitment in practice of Green Building Concepts resulted in him being selected as Chairman LEED India (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a Program established in India to rate Green Buildings. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Govt of India which has initiated the Energy Conservation in Building Code (ECBC) has identified Mr. Raghavendran as a Resource Person for improving understanding and promotion of ECBC norms among stakeholders of the Building Industry.
