-Prof.Dr.KrishnanBaskar was born on 10th December 1961 in an Agricultural family at Kottaikuppam Village, Thiruvallur District, Tamilnadu, India. He completed his undergraduate degree in Physics in 1983 and obtained his Master Degree in Physics in 1985 from Madras University. He did his Ph,D. thesis work at Anna University and obtained the degree in the year 1991 and joined in Anna University, Chennai. The Royal Insitutute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, awarded him the title of “Docent’ for his research accomplishments in semiconductor materials technology in 2001.He is presently the Director, Crystal Growth Centre (UGC-National Facility), Anna University since 2012. He has 25 years of teaching experience with research experience of 29 years. He did four years of postdoctoral studies at Nagoya Institute of Technology and Electrotechnical Laboratory, Tsukuba, Japan, during 1995-1999 with Monbusho Fellowship through Government of India and Science and Technology Agency Fellowship of Japanese government. He worked three years as a Visiting Researcher at Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, during 2001-2004. He is responsible for the creation of the International Division and the introduction of Japanese language at Anna University. He became the Director of Centre for International Affairs, Anna University, in the year 2008 . During his tenure between August 2008 and February 2013, he was instrumental in introducing the Double Masters Degree programmes with five French universities (EcoleCentrales), construction of a state of the art hostel and dining facilities for foreign students, introduction of Erasmus Mundus scholarship-Exchange Programmes (24 million Euro Projects) for staff and students and have signed 59 MoUs with overseas institutions and implemented several joint research programmes. More than hundred students got benefitted to study in European universities on study abroad program for six months to one year as part of undergraduate study, also full masters program. He was responsible for the generation of funds to the tune of Rs.38.00 crores per annum through the tuition fee of NRI/FN admissions by activating the admission process. His research areas of interest are; compound semiconductors, particularly nitride based materials for high electron mobility transistors, UV (260-360nm) and visible light emitting diodes, sensors and solar cells (21.4% efficiency AM0), MOCVD growth, high resolution XRD, Photoluminescence and fabrication of optoelectronic semiconductor devices. He has conducted research by generating research grant to the tune of Rs.11.00 crores through competitive funded projects and has established the sophisticated class 10000 clean room, MOCVD; first of its kind in a University system in India, HXRD and PL with Raman facilities at Crystal Growth Centre. He has taken efforts to establish sophisticated equipment like SEM with EDX, XRD, FT-IR imaging through UGC grants and have made them available to the researchers all over the country. He has established the second floor of the building at Crystal Growth Centre for teaching and research at a cost of Rs.1.10 crores from UGC. He has published over 120 research papers in peer reviewed international journals and conference proceedings. He has guided 14 Ph.D. students and currently 9 students are pursuing the Ph.D. under his supervision. He has organized 28 national / international conferences / workshops. He is a member of several scientific societies. He has traveled more than 25 countries and visited several top ranking educational institutions in the developed countries including long years of stay in abroad. He is a recipient of the Active Researcher award in 2011 from Anna University, Chennai, INDIA. Youngsters attractive research paper award (1,40,000 Yen) from Japan in 1989 as a Ph.D. Student. He has received much recognition from India and abroad for his accomplishments in research. He is a member of many committees in DRDO, UGC, DST, IITs and Universities. He has proficiency in Tamil, Telugu, English and Japanese languages.
